Although I'm not sure the phrase 'work like a dog' fits here -- I've never seen a dog work very hard at anything!Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09941280453570504094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2838004838772936244.post-84456275071127474612009-08-16T13:41:05.420-05:002009-08-16T13:41:05.420-05:00Hi Jo,

Obviously, it's fixed now!

Last night we dug out some potatoes, they were big and lovely and healthy. I think I am going to chop down all of my plants and hope the potatoes are able to develop a thick storage skin. I'll harvest most of them in a few weeks.

I guess I should say I 'think' it's blight, but I don't know for sure...

Hi Rick! Yes, things can get oppressive at this time of year. I am telling myself that if I can just get all these garden goodies taken care of now, I can sleep all I want in January.Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09941280453570504094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2838004838772936244.post-53809405162883729062009-08-16T09:35:13.541-05:002009-08-16T09:35:13.541-05:00Hey Jo, things are looking good over there. It is ...Hey Jo, things are looking good over there. It is funny how we work so hard to get the vegies and then they can still feel like an oppression when they finally come in. Good luck with keeping up.Frustrated Farmer Rickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08367331507586316368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2838004838772936244.post-69077900171497702402009-08-16T09:14:31.930-05:002009-08-16T09:14:31.930-05:00Jo, there was no comment button on your last post,...Jo, there was no comment button on your last post, but wow! - your garden looks great! At one point I thought I had blight on my tomatoes and was worried it would spread to my potatoes, but it turned out to be a simple nitrogen deficiency. My tomato bed is near the potatoes too, and next year I am going to space them further apart to prevent any problems. Did you dig any potatoes to check on them? My vines died back prematurely this year and I got scared, but turns out all was okay and it was just due to our strange summer weather this year. That's a good point about the yellow wax beans being easier to see - might try that next year too! And the tour you took sounds great! It's amazing to see the little things we struggle to accomplish in our own homesteads work so flawlessly for those whom it has been an actual way of life! Not to mention how they "see things to the end" by milling their own grains, etc, puffed even, lol??!! Sounds like a great experience!Erinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06916896512933101955noreply@blogger.com
