So much

for the blizzard warning.  We got maybe three inches overnight.  The weathermen were right about the high winds and sub-zero temps, however.  The skies are grey with fog and swirling snow, and I'm sure the three inches of snowfall has drifted high on the county roads.  The scattered homestead groves act like terrific windbreaks, and a car can travel from bare gravel to foot-deep drifts without warning.  Good thing we don't have to be anywhere.

I am taking the opportunity of a home-bound weekend to catch up with my Christmas gift making.  I'd post pictures of what I'm doing, but my family reads this blog and I don't want them to know what they're getting.  Suffice it to say, I've never made these things before, and it is slow going.

A pot of eggs is boiling on the stove for egg salad sandwiches.  The turkey I had planned to cook for supper today isn't fully thawed, so we will have to improvise.  A bag of blueberries is on the counter, waiting for me to do something wonderful with it.  Wonderful, but easy.  I'm thinking a nice fruit crisp.  With ice cream.  That sounds like a pretty good supper.

Not sure we are going to be so lucky now! It's already been freezing rain since this morning and they are calling for 9.5 inches and 40-50 mph winds.

Methinks you sent it our way ;o)

It's all good tho because we have lots of supply and lots to do at the sewing machine!

Egg salad sandwiches and blueberry crisp for dinner? As the cooker, I'd go for that any day over preparing a turkey dinner!

Hey, APG, we'll take your 9.5 inches and blizzard-like winds if you want. We've got high winds, no snow and forecast -20 to -30 windchills for tonight. Might as well have insulating snow if it's gonna be that cold!

+20" right now in my hometown and still coming down, WOW! Mama Pea, I can't believe you aren't getting any of that blizzard either!

At least 15" here with bigger drifts and a 4' pile of snow at the end of my driveway. I spent 2-3 hours Saturday snowblowing my driveway, and those of the five neighbors around me who only have shovels.

I often say i would never be one of those who spends winters down south because I enjoy the change of seasons too much, but this is just a bit silly.

Well, dear, we received two feet of the fluffy white stuff!! Olive Garden actually closed! I had a snow day! I thought I was way too old for those things! You should (and you will!) see the winter wonderland outside! It's absolutely beautiful,...and cold!!!

Hello Apple Pie Gal -- I hope your roads aren't too bad, I didn't send it all your way, honest!

Hi Mama Pea -- Yeah, the kids loved the sandwiches, but turned their noses up at the blueberry crisp. Go figure.

Hello Erin -- You'll have a very white welcome for your Minnesota holiday!

Howdy Bob! I'm glad you got all the snow, your driveway is a lot shorter than ours. I hope your neighbors appreciate your neighborliness. It would have to take mountains of snow to turn me into a snowbird, and deal with icky southern stuff (mainly weirdos from the north moving down there for the winter).

Hello Karen! Congrats on the snow day! Looking forward to seeing you next week!
