This is what I'm talking about

Murmuration from Sophie Windsor Clive on Vimeo.

The starlings that fly over our house in the fall look just like this, only in smaller numbers.

Maybe you should name your farm "Starling Farm" instead of "Blackbird Farm"...

No, Black Bird Farm sounds better. Still haven't sold the hubby on it, however...

Yikes! This video went viral in a hurry!

Would I be "that guy" if I pointed out that starlings are an invasive species that are displacing native bird populations?

Cliff Claven fact. They were introduced to Central Park in NY by an eccentric Shakespeare lover that thought America should have all the birds he mentioned and are now found across the country.

Feel free to be "that guy" Rick, your insight and wisdom is always appreciated. Working for the DNR, I am well familiar with the natives vs. invasives struggle. I deal with it on a near-daily basis.

When I was a kid, grass was grass and trees were trees and birds were birds and they were all beautiful. Then I went to college and became educated. I was taught that there were plants and animals that were good and plants an animals that were bad.

I completely agree with the need to reduce the spread of invasive species. A good chunk of my job is trying to remove these species (European buckthorn, Russian olive, Canada thistle, birds foot trefoil, leafy spurge, just to name a few) from the park.

I just wish sometimes I could go back to when I was a kid, and everything was beautiful again.

Also, I often remind myself that I am a member of the most aggressive, invasive species that exists on earth! :)
